a play between Tango and Contact Improvisation

The workshop develops partnering into a playful walking dialogue drawing from Tango Argentino vocabulary and Release based techniques principles, including Contact Improvisation.

We will aim to engage the spine to arms and legs; negotiate contact, release and resistance; provide and remove contact and support; sharing weight and momentum; harmonize solos with duets and group work.
We will explore the concepts of rooting, floating and tracing to enable a fluid interchange of roles and investigate the moments in between leading and following.

Among other things happening within the Tango embrace, we find that the state of the muscles and skeletal structure are modified continuously, according to the level of energy or intention used to
perform a type of movement.
The idea of the class is to recognize these two bodily systems, working on the assembly or placement of the skeletal segments (by
blocking the joints), and about how and when to use these mechanisms.

In the 'Shared proposition', proposals are bi-directional, each person may propose or lead movements without changing the embrace. One plays and interacts with the other, manifesting a different state of co-creation, as in the origins of Tango.
The class will be orientated towards experimenting with this elevated state of improvisation.
